Trailer Update

Only A Dream is now part of the Pixar Co-Op, an internal professional development project that sets aside studio resources for employees who want to create their own films.


Without getting too technical, this means we have entered a new phase where we must migrate the project into the Pixar pipeline. It's not a small undertaking, but will enable us to use studio resources more effectively and for a longer period of time.


Through the CoOp, we've brought on a new producer, Angela Guzman who is helping to recruit artists and techs from around the studio.


The studio is very busy into next year and we must do our work after-hours and not on studio time. That, coupled with the laborious and time-intensive nature of creating feature animation (which typically costs $1-2M per minute to produce), makes for some healthy headwinds for us and all CoOp film projects.


We're are a scrappy crew though, with a lot of blood, sweat, and tears invested, and will continue to march forth until we release this trailer to the world! So thank you, as always, for standing by us. We'll keep you posted!

L7 Pictures

L7 Pictures is our virtual studio, with teleconference meeting rooms, cloud based data storage, and an ftp pipeline, and free production tracking software.

Presently we're 10 people. At our largest we were 50, but as is the case with a production with zero budget, people move in and out of the project like water.

But now that we've got a modest budget, and we're ramping back up to complete a trailer with our Indiegogo funds.  In preparation for this, we've been looking into L7 upgrades.

Enter Java wiz kid, Benjamin Berg. For the past several months Benjamin has been constructing a VPS Linux-based infrastructure for L7 that will track our production assets and personnel, integrate our proprietary alembic bakery and cloud based rendering, and much much more.

As the gateway to our production pipeline, Benjamin's interface will facilitate collaboration between artists from around the world, taking our projects from storyboard to finished product. The brave new world of independent animation is underway at L7!

Indiegogo!

Well we did it!  With much preparation we finally put our baby out there!  While we didn't turn the numbers we'd hoped for, it did give us enough to make a killer trailer.  It's the next phase of Only a Dream.  Thank you to all of our contributors!

Scarecrow Explorations

It was so fun to see Pierre Perifel chew on different approaches to our villain as the story developed. Eventually we arrived at a vision from Lucy's troubled past, a design inspired by the wild incarnations of David Bowie - but along the road, Scarecrow was a number of different characters, from pure Nightmare Monster to the eccentric Hartford Graves. Carlos Baena and his La Noria campaign inspired us to go with Invictus Designs for several of our Indiegogo perks. This is the final piece of our puzzle before launching Only a Dream on Indiegogo.

We want to hear your voice

Does mainstream animation need to be only for young kids/families? As long as it's a 4 quadrant movie, is it not as valid as any storytelling medium? Can we spread our wings as an industry into most any genre, and still be successful at the box office?

We are in need of additional music, with new scenes added to the film, so we are enlisting the services of one of the greatest guitarists on Planet Earth, Mattias IA Eklundh, frontman for the Swedish Metal Band "Freak Kitchen".
